Plum Street Press is proud to sponsor Multicultural Children’s Book Day, an event dedicated to showcasing books that celebrate diversity. Children of color have, historically, been underrepresented in children’s books, but here at Plum Street Press, we believe all children should get to see themselves and their friends reflected in the books they read. Seeing different kinds of people in stories helps us all by affirming and uplifting our shared humanity, so we’re thrilled to support Multicultural Children’s Book Day, which was started “to raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity [and] to get more of these of books into classrooms and libraries.”

On January 27th, a series of online and in-person events will give readers, librarians, parents, and teachers a chance to learn about some of the great books out there that feature characters of color and tell stories that offer ways to connect to the diverse world we live in. There will be recommendations, book reviews, giveaways, and gatherings both offline and online. For more information on ways to take part, please visit out the Multicultural Children’s Book Day website at http://multiculturalchildrensbookday.com/.
